Guided Tour: Women and the Reformation

False, wrinkled and with a diabolical tongue”: This is how Catholic nun Jeanne de Jussie describes Marie Dentières, a Protestant theologian. Both women illustrate how women were involved in the Reformation process, in Geneva as well as in other European countries. Many zealous activists took an active part in the religious confrontations of the time, at all levels of society.

For International Women’s Day, on March 8th, the MIR invites you to explore its collections through the lens of women’s history. Queens of major European kingdoms as well as ordinary women leading their everyday lives are the faces of a long-neglected dimension of Reformation history. Hanna Woodhead, Research Associate of the MIR, will lead both tours.
